100 Years Of Local Laundry

A lot has changed in 100 years. Now, we have smartphones not telegrams, entertainment via the internet not silent movies and electric irons, not ones literally made of iron.

What hasn’t changed is Taylors’ commitment to quality laundering services, backed up by state-of-the-art technology, technical and operational expertise and good ol’Kiwi service.

1919

Taylors began

We were established in Christchurch as Dry-Cleaners and Dyers.

1940 - 1950

On the road

We opened new depots and got our vans on the road.

1930

Ironing out the kinks

We expanded our business into finishing, with the purchase of a flat ironer.

1965

Another beginning

Taylors Drycleaning and Laundry Services was established with the merging of two companies (a laundry and drycleaners) in Timaru and Invercargill

Spotless purchased the majority shareholding, later taking full ownership in 2010

1991

A new owner

Taylors bought the laundry business of Health Support Services Ltd (now known as Auckland District Health Board Laundry) based at Carrington Road, Pt Chevalier, Auckland. This provided a base for us to enter the hospital linen service sector, and a home for 300 new employees

1994

A new home

2011

A new name

The Taylors business rebranded and became known as ‘Spotless Laundries’.

2014

Coming full circle

We rebranded back to 'Taylors'.

In any good business, change is the key to growth. Downer sought to add this winning brand to their business stream, and Taylors became part of the Downer family.

2017

Spotting a winner

Today

A new era

We now operate three commercial laundries in Auckland, Hamilton and Nelson and are the largest commercial launderer by volume within New Zealand. We’ll soon increase our processing capacity by 40%.
